The Weekly Comet: Tupac, Mark Isham and Leftover Cuties
On this week’s show, co-hosts Tamara Conniff and Jonathan McHugh talk about how they would like to be turned into holograms like Tupac. Jonathan recounts his adventures in Coachella and Tamara reports the latest news, including music and TV personality Dick Clark’s passing at the age of 82, Green Day’s forthcoming three new albums, Axl Rose’s absence from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, Fun topping the Ultimate Chart, again, and Soundgarden’s first single in 15 years for the summer film “The Avengers“.
Modern noir pop band Leftover Cuties perform two songs including a silky jazz version of “You Are My Sunshine” off of their new covers EP “Departures” due out May 15. The band talk about the how their song “Game Called Life” become the theme song to the hit Showtime series “The Big C”, the origin of their name and why it has been so important to them to stay indie. The band is currently working on their new full-length album to be released this fall. Leftover Cuties are a throwback to the Gatsby era, smoke-filled jazz joints. They are not to be missed!
Grammy and Emmy-winning composer Mark Isham sits on The Comet Couch and discusses new film “The Lucky One” and the joys of working on the hit TV show “Once Upon a Time”. He talks about the weekly use of a full orchestra to record the score for “Once Upon a Time” and how film scoring has evolved and remained the same over the past 20 years. With over 100 films to his credit, Isham got his start as a classical trumpet player and an electronica pioneer.
Good Stuff.
