Good Health Care: It’s Your Zip Code, Stupid
The Institute of Medicine evaluates health care services based upon six factors: safety, timeliness, efficiency, effectiveness, equitability and how patient-centered it is. We do poorly across all, except for efficiency . . . but when you look closely this is propped up by places like the Cleveland Clinic and the Mayo Clinic. Ten miles – from the north side of Chicago to the south side – can change your statistics by 50%.
